Cloud is an Internet resident system capable of delivering user determined computing provisions. Let me explain each term in detail.
- cloud system is Internet-resident - by this we mean that cloud provisions are available on the Internet on 24/7/365 basis.It is accessible via browser. They can also be accessed programmarically using APIs.
- user-determined- a cloud user can determine the kinds of computing provisions he/she wants to avail. User can also determine quantum, duration, and other customisable features of a cloud provision. Example: In case of Gmail or hotmail - a user can avail free storage or buy additional storage for a price
- computing provisions- a cloud can provide a user with a range of services that broadly include services, resources such as storage, platform etc.
The feature of cloud system to provide user-determined provisions is called provisioning.
