Vishnu Bhat is the vice president and head of cloud services at Infosys. Prior to coming to Infosys, Vishnu started his career in the instrumentation technology industry as an engineer. He taught instrumentation and computer science at the R V College of Engineering in Bangalore. In this interview, he talks about Infosys’ value proposition for enterprise clients in the field of hybrid cloud implementation and gives us insights into trends in the industry and the direction in which it is heading.
Sramana Mitra: Vishnu, let’s start with some background about yourself as well as your practice at Infosys.
Vishnu Bhat: I am the head of the cloud and big data practice at Infosys. Prior to this I was with the global systems integration systems business at Infosys. Prior to that I was chief operating officer of Infosys Australia, which was based in Melbourne. Before that I played several other roles across the globe for Infosys. So, I have been in this industry for over 20 years, and I have had various roles in the company. Our business unit has been focusing on cloud and big data for almost two years. We operate in all horizontals, crossing all regions across all multiples. Since we launched the business we [expanded] several services and solutions in IT to meet the needs of our clients in the area of big data.
SM: Can you discuss some of the broad trends you are seeing across your cloud computing and big data practices?
VB: From a cloud perspective, we are focused on the strategy of how to see this space growing. This predominantly revolves around enterprise clients. One thing that became clear to us was that the hybrid cloud was going to become very real for most enterprises. When you look at the trajectory of enterprises, we strongly believe that in the next four to five years, 50% to 60% of enterprise workloads will be on the cloud. A lot of it has started with what we call private cloud automation, slowly getting into different forms of public cloud infrastructures. We are seeing a very clear trend that over time, this hybrid cloud and hybrid cloud ecosystem is becoming stronger, and we are seeing more and more enterprises embarking on that journey.
